Falk Student Services provides support to students who may encounter learning obstacles, social and emotional stress, and/or illness at any time during the school year. We do this by offering counseling in a variety of settings and by providing learning support to identified students.
Our focus encourages students to engage in strategies that foster social, emotional, and academic growth. The professionals who staff our support programs work together to complement and coordinate services so the best possible plan of action is developed for each student.
Counseling
The aim of Falk Student Services is to support the growth of the whole child. That includes providing counseling to students and delivering social and emotional lessons in classroom and small-group settings.
Counselors are available to be with students:
- to build relationships with them and work in partnership with families;
- to listen, reflect, and validate students’ feelings;
- to provide a safe(r), calm(er) space;
- to advocate for students’ needs;
- to mediate conflicts with peers;
- to offer small-group counseling around a specific issue or topic;
- to help brainstorm solutions to students’ problems;
- to help navigate the high-school placement experience;
- to offer risk assessment related to self-harm or substance abuse; and
- to connect students and families to supportive community resources.

- maintains a culture of community that values diversity and belonging, in keeping with the Falk School philosophy and beliefs about children; and
- maintains high expectations to actively engage students in their own learning, responding to their unique strengths, interests, and needs.
