At Falk School, students are provided with opportunities to grow in an environment that encourages a balance of challenge and support. This delicate balance is designed to facilitate the social, academic, and co-curricular growth of students both as individuals and as members of our community.
Recognizing the benefits of a more active, collaborative kind of learning, our classrooms are designed to replace lecture and memorization with shared discovery. Teachers aim at getting our students to learn and think for themselves, allowing them to take an interest, take responsibility, and take part.
Students are encouraged and enabled to cultivate a balanced life by taking advantage of the many academic moments available to them - those not only found in the classroom - but beyond.
The Arts are an essential part of our daily lives. They frame our experience of the world, serve as vehicles for personal expression, and enhance our exploration of history, culture, and heritage. Residencies, assemblies, and trips to museums, theaters, concert halls, and studios provide additional opportunities for students to learn from visual artists, musicians, dancers, and actors.
The Music and Performing Arts Department is committed to making music a part of students’ daily lives. By providing a variety of opportunities and individual and shared experiences, we strive to foster a lifetime appreciation and engagement in music. The integration of the performing arts at all levels aids in the developing students' creative self-expression, self-discipline, and self-confidence.
The Visual Arts Department presents a sequenced, developmental program that emphasizes expression and creativity. Students gain confidence investigating and giving artistic form to ideas, thoughts and feelings. They discover value in art and learn to see value in the expressions of others.
The Mind and Body Connection
Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. Wellness is a dynamic process of change and growth. Students are encouraged to engage in active, open attention, to be aware of themselves as part of their environment, and to enrich their lives by being part of life’s experiences.
The Health and Physical Education program aims to provide students with a basic foundation of motor and manipulative skills, an understanding of the importance of physical fitness and sport, and the ability to maintain a physically active lifestyle for personal challenge, enjoyment, health, self-expression, and social interaction.
Lifestyle and Technology
The proliferation of social media and technology has changed the way educators teach, how students learn, and the way teachers and students communicate. Students are excited about being able to use technology and therefore are more apt to learn as they stay engaged and collaborative both in and out of the classroom. Students therefore have the opportunity to be designers of their own learning paths as they critically review the wealth of information they encounter.
