US Olympic Gold Medalist and Pitt Women’s Basketball Coach, Suzie McConnell-Serio made a special trip to Falk School last week to visit the Middle School Chorus.  Falk’s Middle School Chorus was chosen to sing at Pitt’s School Day Game against Cornell.

Over the past few weeks the 2nd graders in room 22 have been working to explore and explain just who are the people who help the Falk School function. Questions from the students arose surrounding:   security cameras in our school, the fire alarms, secret places within the building, and the mysterious night crew, who helps to keep our school neat and clean. Zoe Z. Hannah L. & Skyler E. We are delighted to share that three Falk students' designs were selected to be part of the 18 designs on the Belonging Community Voices poster for the Sprout Fund: Hanna L. & Skyler E. (a collaborative design) and Zoe Z.  Sprout invited people living in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County to submit original works of art that express the concept of “belonging.” Nearly 250 submissions were received, including many from local youth... This is an animation that my students made after reading the book "My Father's Dragon."  They created a list of scenes and a list of characters and props.  They then made the props and characters out of paper.  We used our tablet in the room to animate each scene from the book.  Afterwards the kids developed a script based on the book and recorded themselves reading their lines.  We learned about stop-motion animation in Technology at the beginning of the year and continued to explore it... We are proud to announce that Falk School was among the 2017 grantees of the Reitz Family Fund.  Created in 2014 through a charitable gift from Michigan resident Kelsey R. Zachow and named in honor of her beloved grandmother, Ruth Reitz, the fund focuses on societal concerns that span generations while providing resources to transform the lives of people and animals. Falk parent Dawn Zachow is President of the fund and brought the opportunity to partner on the issue of Gender Diversity... The Falk Girls Basketball Team were in the St. Edmunds Basketball Tournament on Saturday February 18th. In the first round Falk played against Urban Pathways and came away with a comfortable victory of 32-8. In the championship game against St. Edmunds we won 27-22. It was a very close game , but with complete team effort on offense and defense we were able to keep the lead. Way to go Falk Girls Basketball!
